She has reportedly expressed interest in bucking royal traditions when it comes to her wedding, but Princess Beatrice might be thinking of emulating one very important member of the royal family when it comes to her less extravagant wedding plans with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

It’s previously been reported that the elder daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, wants to have a more low-key affair when she marries her Italian fiancé in 2020, but she wouldn’t be the only member to have a more frugal affair. In fact, Queen Elizabeth also kept things a little less financially extravagant when she wed Prince Philip in 1947.

According to Express UK, following reports that the Princess may not wear a designer gown like the ones Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle donned for their big days, she could be following in the Queen’s footsteps, as she was frugal when it came to her wedding dress because her marriage came two years after World War II and austerity measures were still in effect across the UK.

The website reports the then-Princess had to purchase material using her ration coupons, and she was granted 200 extra for the celebration. However, her fans felt it wasn’t enough and tried to send their own—but the future Queen returned each with a note attached because transferring the rations was illegal and she was willing to make her own less extravagant budget work.

A dress isn’t the only way Princess Beatrice reportedly plans to keep things smaller scale, however, as she also wants to consider her future husband’s ex, Dara Huang, with whom he shares a two-year-old son, Wolfie. According to reports, she thinks a showy affair wouldn’t be right as a result.

“Beatrice has said she and Edo are looking at alternative venues because she wants something different. The wedding will not be in Italy and from what they are saying it won’t be in St. George's Chapel, Windsor, either,” a source previously revealed. “There have been three big Royal weddings there in the past year or so and I’m not sure that’s what Bea wants. Edo has a child, there’s the situation with his ex, and Beatrice might just feel something more low-key might be more fitting.”
