Princess Beatrice’s Engagement Ring Was Inspired By This Royal, Not Meghan Markle
Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring was recently likened to Meghan Markle’s engagement ring. An expert said that both pieces are modern, unlike Kate Middleton’s engagement ring that’s described as traditional.
But according to another expert, Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring was actually inspired by another member of the royal family, at least when it comes to the design.
While speaking with The Sun, creative director of jewelers Taylor & Hart Jason D’Heureux, said that Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring is similar to the ring that Prince Philip gave to Her Majesty because they are both an all-diamond ring.
“Princess Beatrice's is a beautiful engagement ring with a round brilliant cut diamond flanked by four baguette-cut diamonds. It is breath-taking particularly because all you can see is diamonds and the platinum band is hidden,” he said.
On the other hand, the Queen’s engagement ring features a three-carat diamond in the center of the design. But according to The History Press, Princess Beatrice’s ring is three times more expensive than her grandmother’s ring.
And just like Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice’s fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, sourced out the diamonds from Botswana. He teamed up with ring designer Shaun Lee of Mayfair, four months ago.
“[Beatrice] likes a Victorian aesthetic whereas he likes Art Deco so I fused the two eras to create a ring with a Victorian silhouette and tapered baguette-cut side stones to create a linear, Art Deco effect,” Lee explained.
Meanwhile, some royal fans couldn’t help but accuse Princess Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi of copying Prince Harry and Markle’s engagement photos. After the photos were uploaded on social media, one royal fan said that imitation is really the sincerest form of flattery.
Another royal fan questioned the couple’s choice of monochrome background. The fan said that Prince Harry and Markle made the black and white photos famous among the royals. And another fan called Princess Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi copycats.
