Princess Charlene Joins ‘Retro’ Fever at Oscars 2012, Dons White on Red Carpet (PHOTOS)
When it comes to having royals at the Oscars, perhaps Monaco's royal family tops the list.
Monaco's royal family got linked with Hollywood about half a century ago when former American actress Grace Kelly gave up her acting career for love and became the Princess of Monaco or Princess Grace after marrying Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, in April 1956.
Her son Prince Albert of Monaco along with his wife Princess Charlene attended the annual 84th Academy Awards, held at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, California, Sunday.
Princess Charlene followed the trend of wearing white for red carpet arrival this year as most of the actresses sashayed down the red carpet in white and black dresses, giving the feel of retro era.
Princess Charlene donned a sleeveless, floor-length pleated gown with high-neck collar, designed by Swiss designer Akris. Princess Charlene carried a cream clutch, also designed by Akris, and her hair was swept back to a puffy bun that complemented her look along with a pair of dangle earrings.
It was the first Oscars for Princess Charlene, a former South African Olympic swimmer, who wedded Prince Albert in Monaco on July 2, 2011.
Her late mother-in-law won her last Oscars for the Best Actress for The Country Girl in 1955 before becoming Princess Grace.
