Princess Diana Became ‘Furious’ With Queen Elizabeth II For This Reason

Their divorce was a big scandal for the royal family, but a bombshell new claim states that Princess Diana never wanted to legally end her marriage to Prince Charles, and was instead forced to do so by Queen Elizabeth II.

In a new interview with Express UK, Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell revealed the former royal had asked to just separate from her husband when their marriage was falling apart because she wanted to keep a more cohesive unit for their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

“The princess tried to make her marriage work, and she never actually wanted a divorce,” Burrell said. “Diana said: ‘I’ll have a separation but I don’t want to be divorced. For the children’s sake, I want to remain a family unit.’”

However, Burrell maintains, Queen Elizabeth refused to let that be the case, and wrote the pair, telling them to divorce, something that infuriated Diana.

“The Queen wrote to Princess Diana and said for the sake of the monarchy, and the country, and the Church, we think it best if you and Charles divorce,” he said. “The Princess was furious.”

“She said: ‘This is my marriage, not theirs. It’s nothing to do with the Church, it’s to do with me and Charles and the children,’” he added. “In the very end, she had to succumb to a divorce.”

The pair’s divorce was finalized in 1996. Princess Diana died one year later in a car crash in Paris.
