Princess Diana On Marrying Prince Charles: ‘Worst Day Of My Life’
Princess Diana regretted her wedding to Prince Charles and described it as the worst day of her life.
The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding. Millions watched it on TV and thousands were invited to witness the couple exchanged their vows. However, in a resurfaced documentary from National Geographic “Diana: In Her Own Words,” Princess Dana described her big day as the “worst day of my life,” Reader’s Digest reported.
Princess Diana reportedly thought of calling off the wedding. However, her sisters discouraged her from doing do.
“I went upstairs, had lunch with my sisters who were there, and I said, ‘I can’t marry him. I can’t do this. This is absolutely unbelievable,’” Princess Diana confessed in the documentary.
“Well, bad luck, Duch. Your face is on the tea towel, so you’re too late to chicken out,” they told her.
Just like Princess Diana, Prince Charles wasn’t very happy with their wedding. In fact, just like his bride, he also wanted to cancel their wedding.
“I desperately wanted to get out of the wedding in 1981, when during the engagement I discovered just how awful the prospects were, having had no chance whatsoever to get to know Diana beforehand,” the Prince of Wales confided to a friend.
Princess Diana experienced a shocking weight loss in the run-up to her wedding to Prince Charles. The People’s Princess’ was losing so much weigh that her waist was only size 23 and she was so tiny that she looked like a model.
Elizabeth Emanuel, the designer of Princess Diana’s wedding, confessed that the princess indeed lost so much weight that they had to redo her gown. They thought it was down to nerves, so she was losing weight but for them, it made the job more difficult since they had to keep on taking the bodice and changing the pattern.
To make matters worse, Prince Charles put Princess Diana in a terrible state just a week before their royal wedding. The Princess of Wales was heartbroken when she discovered Prince Charles’ farewell gift to Camilla Parker Bowles on his secretary’s desk.
Princess Diana insisted to look what was inside the package. She found a gold bracelet with letter G and F engraved in it. The letters were reportedly the initials of Prince Charles and Camilla’s nickname for each other – Gladys and Fred.
According to Christopher Wilson, Princess Diana was “absolutely in tears” and was in “terrible state” after discovering it. She confronted Prince Charles and he confirmed it, saying that he was giving Camilla a present because she was a “very good friend.”
