Princess Diana Turned Down These Jobs Before Marrying Prince Charles
Princess Diana reportedly turned down multiple jobs before she married Prince Charles.
Emily Hodgkin, a journalist for Express, said that Princess Diana once worked as a dance instructor for children, she also went to work at a playgroup, and was once a hostess.
The Princess of Wales also served as a nanny for an American family in London, and she was also employed as a teaching assistant at the Young England School in Pimlico.
According to Hodgkin, Princess Diana was not asked to leave her odd jobs before marrying Prince Charles, but being employed was not considered appropriate for members of the royal family.
One of the reasons why Princess Diana couldn’t have her own job while she was married to Prince Charles’ was because her safety and security would’ve been put at risk.
But giving up her jobs didn’t guarantee that Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage would last. In fact, just after they tied the knot, Prince Charles realized that his wife’s popularity was overshadowing him.
Lady Elizabeth Anson, the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, told People that this was one of the moments that the estranged royal couple knew their marriage was at risk of failing.
“Diana sort of metamorphosed into a very, very elegant blonde beauty. They did a visit to Wales which was the beginning of, for Prince Charles, realizing, ‘They’ve come out to see my wife, they haven’t come out to see me,’” she said.
Tom Bower, a royal author, also said that Prince Charles has the tendency of getting jealous of people’s popularity. He most recently felt that he was being upstaged by the Middletons.
The future king reportedly disliked the fact that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis get to spend more time with Michael and Carole Middleton than him.
“Charles saw Kate and William as the new stars and feared he’d be in trouble,” Bower said.
