Princess Diana had simple dreams when she was still a child. In fact, one of her nannies revealed that all she wanted in life was to get married and to have children.

While speaking with CNN, nannies Inge Crane and Mark Clarke described the Princess of Wales’ childhood as ordinary. They also said that the late royal was quite the tomboy because she loved playing outdoors, climbing trees, and more.

When Princess Diana was just 9 years old, Clarke saw her walking towards her at school with downcast eyes. At that time, her parents, Frances Shand Kydd and John Spencer’s marriage was falling apart.

The nannies revealed that divorce wasn’t common in England at that time. And Princess Diana took her parents’ separation very personally. To make things more surprising, it was Princess Diana’s dad who was granted custody of his children.

Shortly after her parents’ divorce, the mom of two told Clarke that she will never get divorced because she will only marry the person that she loves deeply.

“She said, ‘I will never marry unless I'm really in love because if you’re not in love, you’re going to get divorced -- and I never intend to be divorced,’” Clarke said. “This was quite a profound statement for a little girl to come out with. Diana's dreams all through her childhood really were just to be happily married and to have a large family,” she said.

Unfortunately for Princess Diana, her wish will never come true. Even though she married Prince Charles in 1981, their union didn’t last. The couple divorced in 1996 after Queen Elizabeth urged them to do so.

The Prince and Princess of Wales didn’t also have a big family. Rather, they only had two children that were dubbed as the heir and the spare growing up. Princess Diana was heartbroken when she heard Prince Charles’ reaction to their second child being a boy again.
