Princess Diana was jealous of how Sarah Ferguson easily won the royal family’s favor shortly after joining the Firm.

The late Princess of Wales and Duchess of York were very close. In fact, according to reports, it was Princess Diana who re-introduced Ferguson to Prince Andrew.

Several also claimed that they were the best of friends. They were seen at various events laughing and chatting. However, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom confessed that at one point, she was jealous of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s mother because she appeared to have adjusted easily with the royals.

“I thought she would be like me and put her head down and be shy,” Princess Diana told Andrew Morton.

“No, a different kettle of fish altogether and she wooed everybody in this family and did it so well. She left me looking like dirt.”

She admitted that Ferguson was more popular than her within the royal family. Queen Elizabeth II was particularly fond of the Duchess of York because she took part in almost everything and was an expert rider, too. So, there was an instant connection between Her Majesty and Ferguson.

“[Fergie] kept saying to me: ‘You mustn’t worry, everything is going to be fine,’” Princess Diana continued.

“I couldn’t understand it, she was actually enjoying herself, whereas I was fighting to survive. I couldn’t understand how she could find it so easy.”

Since things went well for Prince Andrew’s wife, Princess Diana decided to copy Ferguson’s approach. In fact, she reportedly tried to dress like her.

“I made so many balls-ups trying to be like Fergie,” Princess Diana said.

“I went to a pop concert in leather trousers, which I thought was frightfully ‘with it’, frightfully pleased to act my own age, completely putting out of my mind that I was the future Queen, and future Queens don’t weather leather like that in public.”

Unfortunately, things went downhill for the two royal ladies. They stopped talking to each other a year before Princess Diana’s tragic accident. The Duchess of York confirmed it and said she didn’t know the reason behind it.

Ferguson added that she knew Princess Diana would come back. In fact, she learned that Princess Diana rang a common friend the day before her tragic accident and looked for her because the princess wanted to talk to her.
