Princess Diana would be looking at Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s fashion if she were alive.

Today is Princess Diana’s 22nd death anniversary. According to veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards, if the Princess of Wales were still alive she would be looking at her daughter-in-law’s clothes.

“Kate and Meghan are very fashion conscious and of course so was Diana so she would be looking at their clothes,” Edwards told Nine News Australia. “Sometimes Catherine gets criticised for the clothes George wears or Charlotte wears, I think they look pretty good. But Diana would be all over that, she would pick everything out, she would be in New York, see something and buy it for them. She would love it.”

He added that Princess Diana was great with children. She was very fantastic to sick children, she would even hug them. He noted that before Princess Diana, there is no member of the royal family who hugs a baby.

Just like Middleton and Markle, Princess Diana was praised for her fashion when she was still alive. She was very popular for her black off-the-shoulder dress which many dubbed as the “revenge dress.”

Princess Diana wore the dress on the same day Prince Charles confessed that he was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. The Prince of Wales confessed that he tried to be faithful to Princess Diana “until it became irretrievably broken down.”

The People’s Princess was due to attend an event just hours after the heir apparent’s confession about his relationship with Camilla. While many would find it difficult to face the evening, Princess Diana went out looking drop dead gorgeous in that not-so-princess-like outfit. Hence, the name “revenge dress.”

Many found the dress “too daring” and for those who were following the Prince and Princess of Wales issues at the time, they were convinced that Princess Diana made a “big statement” by doing so.

Princess Diana’s revenge dress remains relevant up to this day. According to Eloise Moran, a 27-year-old fashion writer, the late Princess of Wales is an embodiment of the movement. She was truly a feminist. She had a reputation for being rebellious but with so much grace.
