Princess Diana Would Be 'Thrilled' With Meghan Markle, Harry's Choice Of Name For Daughter: Report

Princess Diana would have been thrilled with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's choice of name for their baby girl.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their daughter Friday. They named her Lilibet Diana and Princess Diana's former voice coach Stewart Pearce said their little girl's name would have made the late royal a proud grandmother.

"Diana would be thrilled at the choice of name for the little one," Pearce told Us Weekly Monday. "As Diana was the personification of love and the exemplar of unconditional love, she would have been so excited by the babe and her beautiful names."

The author of "Diana: The Voice of Change" is convinced that the arrival of Prince Harry and Markle's second child would have been a major milestone to the late Princess of Wales. He also believed that Princess Diana would have been "in total support" of the couple's decision to step back from their royal duties to settle in California.

During Prince Harry and Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey for a CBS special in March, the duke said they decided to leave their life as royals for fear that they might end up like his mom.

"My biggest concern was history repeating itself, and I’ve said that before on numerous occasions, very publicly. … When I’m talking about history repeating itself, I’m talking about my mother," Prince Harry told Winfrey.

"When you can see something happening in the same kind of way, anybody would ask for help, ask the system of which you are a part of, especially when you know there’s a relationship there, that they could help and share some truth or call the dogs off, whatever you want to call it. So, to receive no help at all and to be told continuously, ‘This is how it is. This is just how it is. We’ve all been through it.'"

While Pearce believed that Prince Harry and Markle’s choice of name for their daughter would please Princess Diana, royal biographer Angela Levin felt that it was “rude” toward the Queen. The author of "Harry: A Biography of A Prince" felt that it was demeaning for them to pick Lilibet, the Queen's nickname, which Prince Philip was fond of calling her, because the Duke of Edinburgh just passed away two months ago.

"I don’t think it’s a good idea — I think it’s quite rude to Her Majesty Her Queen. It was a very private nickname from her husband, who hasn’t been dead for very long," Levin explained.
