Princess Diana’s Former Butler Calls Royal Family ‘Nasty,’ Defends Meghan Markle
Princess Diana’s former royal butler, Paul Burrell, recently came to Meghan Markle’s defense and called the royal family nasty.
During his interview on the one-off documentary “Kate V Meghan: Princesses At War?” on Channel 5, Burrell said that it is not right to accuse the Duchess of Sussex of being a diva simply because she was an actress from Hollywood who knew exactly what she wanted.
Burrell went on to compare Markle’s life at Kensington Palace with Princess Diana’s experiences when she was still live at Buckingham Palace.
“Meghan has married into the most traditional family in the country, the Royal Family. How is she going to cope?” he asked. “Princess Diana was brought up in a house that was as big as Buckingham Palace, and even she was lost,” he said.
Burrell said that when Princess Diana was still alive, there were some pitfalls during her time at the palace. Some people were not good to her either.
“People set traps, they weren’t very kind to this young girl coming into this world. Buckingham Palace is a minefield for any person going in there for the first time,” he said.
Burrell wondered who would actually want to be a part of the royal family. During the same interview, the “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” star also compared the palace with Downton on speed.
In related news, Burrell also weighed in on rumors that Markle and Kate Middleton are feuding with each other. He said that it is highly likely for journalists to create fake stories to sell their papers. But Burrell’s claim was shunned by Carole Malone, a journalist, who also appeared on the program.
According to Malone, journalists do not makeup stories. She also said that the rumors must have come from someone inside Kensington Palace – potentially from a disgruntled worker – and was leaked to the press.
But an insider for the palace previously claimed that Markle and Middleton are not at odds with each other. And if they ever were, they already made up on Christmas following Queen Elizabeth II’s orders.
