Princess Diana's Hilarious, Rebellious Streak Before Joining Royal Family Revisited
Princess Diana had a hilarious and rebellious streak prior to joining the British royal family.
In a 1991 interview with Andrew Morton, the late Princess of Wales described her days in an exclusive neighborhood of Coleherne Court as "juvenile, innocent, uncomplicated and above all fun," (as quoted by The Sun). Although Princess Diana was known to be shy and prim and proper when she joined the royal family, she caused all sorts of trouble as a teen with her school friend, Carolyn Bartholomew.
Princess Diana and Carolyn would embark on "jolly but rather juvenile pages" that involves "ringing people with silly names who appeared on the telephone directory." They will also raid various apartments and cards owned by friends in their local area.
The two would also get into mischief by ringing doorbells "in the dead of night" and covering the locks of their friends' cars with sticky tape.
"James Gilbey, then working for a car rental company in Victoria, woke to find his prize Alfa Romeo car covered in eggs and flour which had set like concrete," the biographer wrote.
"I laughed my head off there," Princess Diana said about the experience.
Princess Diana never totally turned her back from her hilarious streak even when she joined the royal family. This reflects in her naughty presents to her sons, Prince Harry and Prince William.
One time, Princess Diana gave the Duke of Sussex a shocking item on his Christmas stocking. "She'd spend hours looking for jokey things for their stockings. One year, Harry got fake dog poo," former royal butler Paul Burrell recalled.
When Prince William turned 13 years old, she also gave the Duke of Cambridge the naughtiest present a mom could give to her teen son.
"I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I've ever seen in my life. The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William's 13th birthday. I wish I'd taken a photograph of it! I didn't know anything about it, I just thought, 'Oh my gosh.' I asked the butler, 'What on earth is this?' and he said the Princess had ordered it for William's birthday," Darren McGrady told Hello!.
