Princess Diana’s Nephew Will Most Likely Inherit Althorp Estate For This Reason
Princess Diana’s nephew, Viscount Louis Spencer, will most likely inherit the Althorp Estate in the near future.
The sprawling property is currently being handled by the Princess of Wales’ brother, Charles, Earl Spencer. During a recent interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Charles said that his son will eventually inherit the property even though he has three older sisters.
“Is it any fairer than the eldest child gets it instead of the eldest male?” he asked.
Rules dictate that the ownership of properties will be given to the eldest male child even if he is younger than his older sisters. This is simply because he’s a man and they are women.
Charles, who has three young children, also said that it is highly unlikely for any of his three kids to want to take on the responsibility of maintaining the family’s estate.
Meanwhile, controversy also surrounded Althorp when Princess Diana was still alive. After the late royal separated from Prince Charles, she reportedly wrote a letter to her brother asking if she could stay in the estate. In a shocking response, Charles said no.
Following the Princess of Wales’ death, her former royal butler, Paul Burrell, said that he found three letters inside her home. One of the letters came from Charles.
“I thought I should update you on the Garden House and keep you informed on developments. I am keen to have everything sorted out clearly in advance of any decision, so there are no problems if the whole thing goes ahead… I see your clear need for a country retreat and I am happy to help provide it as long as there is not too much disruption to us or the estate,” the letter read.
But two weeks later, Charles wrote another letter to Princess Diana seemingly suggesting that he changed his mind. He said that there are many reasons why her impending move to the Garden House is no longer possible.
