A Washington State high school principal is on leave following a comment she made following the death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash.
The helicopter crash happened on January 26, in Calabasas, California, leading to the deaths of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers.
Liza Sejkora, the principal of Camas high school, wrote on her Facebook wall that she is not going to lie, it would seem to her that Karma has caught up with a rapist.
She then deleted the post and replaced it with another one saying everyone is free to judge her for the post just as she was free to judge the person the post was about.
Sejkora, in this case, was referring to a 2003 sexual assault accusation against Bryant. The charges were later dropped, though Bryant acknowledges that though he viewed the encounter was consensual, the accuser may not have felt the same way.
He settled the civil suit out of court for an undisclosed amount of money.
The principal has since issued a public apology in an email to parents claiming her words were inappropriate and tasteless as a visceral reaction.
On Monday, she sent an email to the Camas High School parents, in which she acknowledged not thinking before she posted online.
The Camas School District gave a copy of the apology to media houses, though Sejkora denied commenting on the matter to them.
The school district stated that Sekjora, who had led the institution from 2017, had also been receiving threats from her social media post.
Officials announced on Tuesday that they had placed the disgraced principal on administrative leave. The superintendent, Jeff Snell, told parents their main priority was the safety of the staff and the students.
In light of threats to the principal and the concern the school had for the community, the district spokesperson said she had been placed on leave. It is pending the result of their investigation.
Snell also said he would be taking over as the school leading during Sekjora’s absence. He added on Wednesday morning; the district officials met with the Camas police to review some of the threats made against the principal.
In a statement, Snell stated the social media post failed to model a standard for the students. They, however, mentioned they appreciate Sekjora’s acknowledgment, and they will work to support her in rebuilding trust with the community she serves.
