‘Prison Break’ Season 5 Premiere: Ten ‘Resurrection’ Spoilers
'Prison Break' Season 5, dubbed 'Resurrection,' airs on Fox tomorrow at 9 p.m. After the first hour of 'Prison Break' we’ve seen in eight years, it’s already a well known fact Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are going to take the internet by storm. So we’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of every spoiler, every tidbit, every clue we have so far about what to expect in this new, nine-episode season. You’re welcome.
Michael's New Identity
Michael, for some unknown reason, is in bed with ISIL – he even uses a new name, Kaniel Outis. His new alias was revealed in one of the first trailers by way of a mugshot. Underneath is the warning: “Wanted in the killing of senior CIA official. Numerous bombings. Known terrorist. Known ties to ISIL.”
He’s also got new tattoos all over his body, including his hands, which star Wentworth Miller said are less of a blueprint this time around. Miller says in the 'Resurrection' special the tattoos are “pivotal to the story.” The writing on his arms is in Arabic, and we see Michael knows Arabic himself, as he transcribes lettering from his arm to pen and paper.
Why is Michael In Prison?
In addition to all the spoilers we got a few weeks back in the 'Prison Break : Resurrection' special, we also get a nice tidbit from Lincoln here. “Things have changed in the four years you’ve been locked up.”
Michael has been gone for eight years, so it appears he’s only been locked up for half of that time. We now know Michael is locked up in Ogygia Prison in Yemen. The facility is quite far from the nearest airport, Sana’a International. This might make it difficult to break out of a country in civil war, and explains why the writers have said getting out of prison is just the beginning.
The Paper Crane is Back
It wouldn’t be 'Prison Break' without Michael's origami swans, a sign he’s “watching over you.” The last time we saw one, Linc was placing it on Michael’s grave. There’s usually a message inside. In the 'Prison Break' trailers, it appears Michael hasn’t lost his origami touch and a 'Prison Break' poster confirms the easter egg will return.
T-Bag Discovers Michael Is Alive
The 'Prison Break: Resurrection' special episode reveals that when T-Bag is released from prison, a guard hands him an envelope with a photo of Michael in it. T-Bag immediately approaches Lincoln with this newfound information.
Miller also says Michael has “A new, deadly, set of skills,” which begs the question, what exactly has he had to do to survive all this time?
WTF Happened Episodes To Watch For
According to Executive Producer Vaun Wilmott, episodes 4 and 9 will be the craziest. But in the same reddit AMA, Executive Producer Mike Horowitz said he believes the premiere will have the biggest WTF moment. And to be fair, we’ve been waiting a long time to find out how Michael survived, so you’d best believe the premiere will have a crazy twist for an answer.
There’s A New Intro Song
Ramin Djawadi, the creator of the intro song for the first four seasons, is back for 'Prison Break' Season 5. He’s done a lot since then… 'Game of Thrones,' 'Westworld,' 'Iron Man'… and he’s got something new up his sleeve.
“He did a new version with a different a flair that's really cool,” Horowitz said on reddit.
Sara Will Help
With Sara’s new husband in the mix, it was unclear if she’d join Lincoln, Dunbar and C-Note in the fifth to save Michael. But a new trailer reveals she will, whether her husband likes it or not.
Why The Middle East?
The show taking place in the Middle East is not only a change of pace, it gives the series a chance to approach new episodes with a political angle. “This new show is very politically motivated,” Dominic Purcell said on Australia’s Sunrise morning show this summer. He also said the series is committed to portraying Muslims in a positive light. C-Note has recently converted to Islam and the 'Prison Break' writer's room on Twitter teased we’ll meet a Muslim heroine.
Lincoln Gets Hurt
Four storyboards tease a big car chase scene. The hand-written descriptions reveal Lincoln gets into a accident with an 18-wheeler truck. Lincoln’s vehicle goes through the guardrail, which sends him flying through the windshield and into a body of water.
New Characters
Jacob -- Sara’s new husband, played by Mark Feuerstein of 'Royal Pains.' He’s the new father figure for Michael and Sara’s young child, little Mike (played by Christian Michael Cooper).
Sid -- Kunal Sharma ('The Kids Are Alright') will play Sid, the inmate Michael befriends in the trailer. “ He’s artsy, wired – and in prison. His offense, despite what his docket says, is solely being gay.”
Sheba -- Inbar Lavi ('The Last Ship') is “a beautiful and smart operator/fixer/activist who becomes involved with Lincoln.”
A&W -- Played by Marina Benedict ('Torchwood'), she’s “a crazed villainess who is unconcerned about her physical well-being but efficient in completing her deadly goals.”
Ja -- Rick Yune, who recently starred in 'Marco Polo' on Netflix, joins the cast as “a Korean identity thief whose disheveled appearance belies his genius.”
Van Gogh -- Australian actor Steve Mouzakis ('I, Frankenstein') is “a bad-ass nut-job.”
Cyclops -- not much is known about Amin El Gamal’s ('Newsroom') role except that he has a huge part and a wild nickname.
Whip -- Played by Augustus Prew ('Klondike'), Whip is “funny, crazy, lethal, and pretty damn sharp.”
Season 6 Is Possible
At PaleyFest last month, Producer Paul T. Scheuring told fans Season 6 is a “possibility” under two conditions.
"It all comes from Fox ultimately… another season wouldn't happen unless they felt it was within their interest.” And second, “We as a group have to arrive at a story that we feel is worth telling. Creative integrity is really important and if we could arrive at a story that we felt was worthwhile… then it's possible."
However, series star Wentworth Miller noted nine new episodes are a “satisfying way to fade to black.” So while there could be a Season 6, don’t expect a huge cliffhanger.
