- The "Quantico" star said many called her "Plastic Chopra" after the botched surgery
Priyanka Chopra shared the horrible experience she went through after losing her original nose due to a bad surgery.
The "Quantico" star got candid about her life and experiences in her autobiography "Unfinished: A Memoir." The former beauty queen revisited the time she was criticized and called "Plastic Chopra" after a nose job went awry. Chopra underwent a polypectomy procedure due to a benign growth in her nasal cavity, but the surgeon "accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed" leading her to lose her original nose.
Chopra admitted that the incident left her "horrified" because she was famous in India for her appearance. Meanwhile, many started to criticize her for allegedly getting cosmetic surgery.
"My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn't me," Chopra wrote as quoted by Daily Mail.
Aside from the criticisms, she lost her job. She was fired from two movies because she didn't look the same after the surgery.
"All the talk of body parts and skin tone collectively made me feel devalued and unseen and uncertain about my future," she added. "Having experienced the aftermath of a supposedly simple polyp removal, I knew I wasn't willing to follow the course he'd laid out for me, even if he, as the highly successful expert, was right."
Nick Jonas' wife admitted that her strength made a difference. She started to accept her new look and admitted that if she looked like the other "classically beautiful" girl she wouldn't stand out and more importantly, it wouldn't be her.
"Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I've made peace with this slightly different me…I'm just like everyone else. I look at myself in the mirror and think maybe I can lose a little weight; I think maybe I can work out a little more. But I'm also content. This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me.”
Chopra has been proud and happy with her looks and skin. In a previous interview, she expressed her regret for endorsing a skin-lightening cream. She admitted that she had a lot of self-esteem issues before she turned 15. She described herself as a conscious, super-gawky, skinny teenager. In her early 20s, she endorsed a skin-lightening product and when she saw it later she didn't like it.
"And when I saw it, I was like, 'Oh [explicit] What did I do?' I started talking about being proud of the way I looked. I actually like my skin tone," she said.
Chopra's book "Unfinished: A Memoir" was released on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
