A Reddit community proudly proclaiming itself a “never-ending rally” glorifying president Donald Trump was quarantined by the platform Wednesday for continuing to publish posts inciting people to violence and violating Reddit policies.

Owners of the “r/The_Donald” subreddit, which has 750,000 subscribers, are no longer receiving revenues as a result of the quarantine by Reddit. The subreddit hasn't been banned, however.

People can still visit the forum but will be greeted by a Reddit warning saying:

“This community is quarantined: It is restricted due to significant issues with reporting and addressing violations of the Reddit Content Policy. Most recently the violations have included threats of violence against police and public officials. As a visitor or member, you can help moderators maintain the community by reporting and downvoting rule-breaking content.”

Launched in 2015, the r/The_Donald subreddit has been a magnet for condemnation and controversy by allowing posts inciting violence and spreading violent extreme right wing and alt-right views. It’s been cited many times before by Reddit for violating content policy but has escaped punishment thus far.

This time, however, Reddit cited r/The_Donald for “significant issues with reporting and addressing violations” of its content policy. The social media platform said the subreddit’s most recent violations include threats against the police and public officials in Oregon.

It said it has repeatedly warned the message board’s moderators about “repeated rule-breaking behavior” over the past few months. It also said violent content on the site often went unreported by moderators “and worse, is upvoted.”

”We are clear in our site-wide policies that posting content that encourages or threatens violence is not allowed on Reddit,” said a Reddit spokesperson.

“As we have shared, we are sensitive to what could be considered political speech, however, recent behaviors including threats against the police and public figures is content that is prohibited by our violence policy. As a result, we have actioned individual users and quarantined the subreddit.”

Reddit noted that CEO Steve Huffman in 2016 said posts in the r/The_Donald will no longer appear in r/all, one of Reddit’s main forums. But instead of banning r/The_Donald outright, Huffman wanted Reddit and the country to heal.

In its defense, the subreddit’s moderators tweeted about the incident, claiming threats to public officials on r/The_Donald are rare. They also claim to have actively removed these posts.
