Prometheus Trailer ‘Happy Birthday David’: Reveals Michael Fassbender Robot [VIDEO]
A new trailer for Ridley Scott's upcoming science fiction epic, Prometheus, titled Happy Birthday David focuses on Michael Fassbender's role in the new film as an extremely advanced android robot.
The trailer, which is labeled on YouTube as viral video #3, is an advertisement for Weyland Industries, the fictional robotics company that has designed the impressive Michael Fassbender robot. The trailer begins with the ominous statement, At Weyland Industries, it has long been our goal to create artificial intelligence almost indistinguishable from mankind itself.
David (Fassbender) then answers several questions. Explaining that he can do almost anything and blend in with your workforce effortlessly, but also carry out directives that my human counterparts might find distressing or unethical.
When asked what he thinks about, David responds, Children playing, angels, the universe, robots. He also lists the things that make him sad, explaining that, although he understands human emotions, he cannot feel them, making it easier for humans to interact with him. At the end of the trailer we learn that David is the 8th generation of android from Weyland industries.
Although there has been much hype and excitement surrounding Prometheus, which is set for release this summer, much of the plot still remains a mystery, and each trailer released only increases the number of questions we have.
In an earlier trailer, Guy Pearce, in the role of robotics CEO Peter Weyland spoke at a fictional Ted Talk in the year 2023. In it he claims that because humans have learned how to create life in the form of perfect android robots, humanity has elevated itself to the level of gods.
The film, which is rumored to be a prequel to Scott's sci-fi classic Alien, takes place in a distant future where two superpowers battle for control of the planet as well as the entire solar system's natural resources. One superpower sends a team to a distant planet in order to prepare it for human colonization, but the team discovers that the planet is already inhabited by a race of bio-mechanoid killers. The team is forced to battle these aliens in order to save the human race, while at the same time exploring the darkest corners of the universe and uncovering the origins of mankind.
Prometheus comes out on June 8, 2012, and stars Michael Fassbender alongside Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.
