Prosecutors hold off on charges against Egyptian businessman
MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT- Prosecutors decided to hold off on indicting an Egyptian businessman accused of sexually assaulting a maid at the Pierre Hotel, Sunday.
Mahmoud Abdel-Salam Omar , 74 chairman of El-Mex Salines Company appeared before Judge Lynn Kotler in Manhattan Criminal Court this morning after posting $25,000 bail at 2:30 a.m.
Correction Department officials say Omar was released from Rikers before 9 am.
Prosecutors informed Omar and his lawyer Lori Cohen that he has not yet been indicted but refused to state on record why they intend to continue investigating before taking the case to a grand jury.
Omar, was arraigned Tuesday on charges he summoned a 44 year old to housekeeper to bring tissues to his room before grabbing her breast, kissing her neck and lips and grinding his groin against her legs, according to the criminal complaint.
