Actress Maggie Q opened up about the potential sequel of "The Protege" after the movie was released last week.
The 42-year-old actress, who portrayed the world's most skilled contract killer in the movie, appeared on Collider Ladies Night Monday and noted she "would love" to do its sequel.
"I don’t think I’ve ever really said that," she explained. "First of all, this cast, but also, I really want to work with Martin again and I think it would be really fun to team up again on something like this."
The actress went on to explain how they have left the ending "open," which has enough room for making a sequel.
"We did leave it open and so we shall see," she added. "And it’s not obnoxious. It’s fun! It’s like, listen, if audiences respond to it, we’ll probably get to. If they don’t then, you know, it’s a different story, but we’ll see."
"The Protege" is an action thriller helmed by Martin Campbell. Maggie portrayed a girl, who gets rescued as a child by a legendary assassin, played by Samuel L. Jackson and later becomes a skilled contract killer.
The movie also stars Michael Keaton, Lili Rich, Robert Patrick, Phong Giang and Gong Li. The script was penned by Richard Wenk, who previously wrote popular action thrillers, "The Equalizer" and "The Equalizer 2."
The movie will get a sequel or not, depends on the movie's final box office collection. The action thriller was able to pull $2.9 million over the weekend. Considering the reviews and ratings, the movie received an IMDb rating of 6.7 and 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to many outlets, the movie might get a bigger audience once it hits the streaming platform. For now, "The Protege" is available only in theaters.
Maggie is currently filming a comedy movie, "Pivoting," which is based on three friends who follow their hearts and not their psychologist. The movie stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Eliza Coupe and Tommy Dewey. The movie is helmed by Tristram Shapeero.
The actress will also feature in movies like "Long Gone Heroes" and "Cutman," both of which are currently under pre-production.
