Proverbs 29:9 Linked To Joe Biden After Vice Presidential Debate 2012 Just Like Mitt Romney And 'Completely Wrong’
On Friday afternoon after the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate, “Proverbs 29:9” became a nationally trending topic. But why?
Apparently, some are linking Proverbs 29:9 which states according to one of its many translations, ”If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet,” to Vice President Joe Biden, who many are criticizing for laughing through the debate on Thursday.
A simple Google Image search of “proverbs 29:9” points to photos of Biden laughing at the debate, one of which a meme at Meme Generator with the quote directly added to a photo. The new Google bomb comes just days after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was linked to the phrase “completely wrong” in Google search.
A few articles even pointed to Proverbs 29:9 after Biden spent a majority of the debate laughing at his opponent, Paul Ryan.
Steve Hayword, a public policy writer for the blog Power Line, directed quoted Proverbs 29:9 for his article entitled, “The Debate In Pictures,” which he used as his “final coda.”
Newsok.com similarly wrote: "Appearances matter. Ryan treated voters with respect while Biden prompted many to recall Proverbs 29:9: 'If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.'"
One Twitter user, according to Twitchy, even pointed out that searching the term “Proverbs 29:9” has become a “Google bomb” directing search results to topics concerning the debate.
“I found it extremely hilarious that when I typed 'Proverbs 29:9' into the search bar, Biden Ryan debate also showed up,” wrote Twitter user daniellegrace56.
Other Twitter users, like user TodKincannon, agreed, writing, “Hey @JoeBiden, check out Proverbs 29:9: 'If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.'”
Similarly, a commenter on Yahoo quotes Proverbs on an article about “Laughing Joe.” Yahoo reported a new Twitter handle, @LaughinJoeBiden, was created on the Internet during the debate in honor of Biden’s “chuckles, sighs and interruptions.” The comment from user Vaxtar simply reiterated the Proverbs 29:9.
Over at the Blaze, user spiritnword used Proverbs 29:9 to drive home his point for a comment on an article which rounded up photos of Biden’s best facial expressions from the debate.
“Here’s the psychology of it: I think by tomorrow morning, millions of men who are the intelligent, serious, hardworking type (like Ryan) will wake up and finally make the association that the sick feeling in their gut watching the debate was that Biden came across as that abusive, loud, obnoxious laughing-drunk, condescending, grandfather that shows you no respect, that you cant reason with and dismisses anything you say or do no matter how clearly in the wrong they are and how clearly you have researched your point,” the user wrote. “Ryan relied on facts, Biden on ridicule. Ryan showed respect, Biden showed disdain.”
Could it be that “Proverbs 29:9” will forever be associated with Joe Biden, just like Romney’s Google bomb for “completely wrong” and George W. Bush’s “miserable failure?”
