Sony Interactive Entertainment is doubling down on its commitment to the Play At Home initiative by offering “Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition” for free to all PlayStation fans. PS4 and PS5 users will be able to download the award-winning third-person adventure game free of charge until mid-May.

Horizon Zero Dawn” is set in a post-apocalyptic world where deadly machines roam the lands and humanity is no longer on the top of the food chain. The remnants of humanity live in a new dark age as hunter-gatherer tribes amidst the ruins of civilization.

Players will take on the role of the young huntress Aloy as she journeys across the lands to uncover the truth behind her past and save her people from the encroaching danger of a mysterious, hostile faction.

The complete edition of “Horizon Zero Dawn” will include the base game and the “Frozen Wilds” expansion pack, which adds a new region, more weapons, additional machine-type enemies and a new storyline centered around the Banuk tribe in the frozen wildlands.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” was met with positive reviews from fans and critics upon release, with many praising the game’s storytelling, Aloy’s character portrayal and development, the rewarding exploration of the game’s large open world and the challenging combat. The design of the enemy machines was particularly noteworthy, as each machine behaved differently from the others, forcing players to adapt their playstyle based on the enemy they were fighting.

The game also won a number of awards from different bodies across multiple categories, including awards for storytelling, technology and musical score.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” is not and won’t be the only free game under Sony’s Play At Home initiative. Last month, the company offered 10 different indie game titles for PlayStation fans, including top-down roguelike shooter “Enter The Gungeon” and the first-person survival and exploration game “Subnautica.”

PlayStation owners will be able to download "Horizon Zero Dawn" within the following time windows:

  • PT : April 19, 8 p.m. to May 14, 8 p.m.
  • BST: April 20, 4 a.m. to May 15, 4 a.m.
  • CEST: April 20, 5 a.m. to May 15, 5 a.m.

Additionally, Sony is offering an extended trial for the anime-focused Funimation and Wakanim streaming services on select countries. The company will also be announcing more free titles in the coming months.
