  • Fans expect "No Man's Sky" and "Dark Souls" to be the next free games for PS Plus
  • Sony did not make any announcements regarding March's free PS Plus games
  • "Oddworld: Soulstorm" will be a free PS Plus game in April

The first State of Play presentation has come and gone, and much to the dismay of many gamers, the next lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus was not revealed.

Gamers were eagerly anticipating the next free game lineup during Sony’s 30-minute presentation, but it simply didn’t happen. As a result, many have returned to playing the guessing game. People were expecting “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” to go free on PS Plus following the teases from social media, along with “Disco Elysium: The Final Cut” since its release date was drawing closer.

Users on Reddit have previously speculated about March’s incoming PS Plus games. Some users are expecting “No Man’s Sky” to go free on the Playstation’s subscription service in lieu of the game’s next-gen update that makes it compatible with the PS5. This was quickly dismissed by other users, however, saying that direct sales are the only source of income for “No Man’s Sky” and having the game go free would harm the developer.

Fans have also been clamoring about the remastered version of “Dark Souls.” The game is a prime candidate for PS Plus considering the successful release of “Demon’s Souls” for the PS5. The remastered version would allow the fans of the game to play it at 60 FPS with improved graphical quality.

“Dark Souls” is one of the most influential games of the past decade. This series (as well as its spiritual successor “Bloodborne”) spawned a sub-genre of action-RPGs called “soulsborne” that features brutally difficult yet fair and rewarding gameplay.

Reddit users in r/PlayStationPlus have made correct guesses about incoming PS Plus games before. While this doesn’t make any of the current guesses final, it gives players a glimmer of hope that their preferred game will become available for free.

Oddly enough, Sony unveiled one free PS5 game that’s slated for an April release date.

“Oddworld: Soulstorm” was revealed as a free title under April’s PS Plus lineup. Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning confirmed this in an announcement he made on the PS Blog.

Many fans were left baffled by the lack of PS Plus game announcements in the year’s first State of Play, but this may mean that Sony is gearing up for a big reveal before February ends.
