PS5 Restock: Sears Allegedly Selling Overpriced Bundle – Report
KEY POINTS
- Reseller Entrotek is selling overpriced PS5s at Sears for almost double the regular price, a report says
- The most expensive bundle costs $1,179.99
- Customers are advised to wait for other stores to restock instead of buying overpriced PS5s
Amid the shortage of PS5s, many stores across the country have been trying to get as many consoles to hopeful buyers as possible without any needless complications. Sears has somewhat recently defied this trend by allegedly selling PS5 bundles at exorbitant prices.
The store has been spotted selling PS5 bundles on its online catalog for over twice the standard price, Tech Radar reported. These bundles feature a standard PS5 with a few additional accessories like headphones, controller covers, charger decks and at least one game from the previous console generation.
This isn't being sold directly by Sears. The current Sears catalog has six PS5 bundles from reseller Entrotek that are priced at over $1,000, with the most expensive one being pinned at $1,179.99.
As tempting as a fully-kitted PS5 may sound, these prices are still unreasonably high, especially since the included accessories are worth far less than the added value.
To put this price gouge into perspective, the standard disc version of the PS5 costs around $500. Sears has effectively priced the packaged game and accessories in each bundle over 100% higher than a base PS5’s actual value.
The actual price of the bundled accessories amounts to a mere $35 on Target, according to Tech Radar’s Matt Swider, and while the price of the games featured in each bundle varies, none of them exceeds the $70 mark. This puts the actual value of the bundled games and accessories to just around $105 at most and roughly $50 at least.
Even Sears’ normal PS5 set that comes with a console, charging dock, controller and controller sleeve is priced at $949.99, which is almost double the price in other stores.
Buyers are advised to refrain from buying these consoles as the price is simply not worth paying. Other stores like Target, Walmart and Best Buy are slowly but steadily selling more PS5s each month at more acceptable prices. It will be better to simply wait for the next restock from these stores than to buy a single PS5 for the price of two.
