PSG Boss Christophe Galtier Heaps Praise On $222M Star, Calls Him An 'Artist'
KEY POINTS
- Neymar has netted 10 goals and seven assists this season
- He is PSG's fourth-leading scorer on the all-time list
- Neymar has been at PSG since 2017
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) boss Christophe Galtier has called Neymar an "artist" following the Brazilian forward's recent string of fine performances.
Neymar has scored in six out of PSG's seven Ligue 1 games this season. In PSG's 2-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League, Neymar did not score but provided an assist.
Ahead of PSG's upcoming Champions League game against Israeli club Maccabi Haifa, Galtier heaped praise on Neymar.
"It would be oversimplified to suggest that his good start to the season is only down to me and my staff. Ney has had a realization in relation to last season when he didn't perform as well when he was less involved. He has lofty goals in what is a special season," Galtier said in a pre-match press conference, Goal.com reported.
Neymar has netted 10 goals and provided seven assists in nine matches in all competitions for the French club in the ongoing season.
"He arrived back on time, in great shape, and had worked well beforehand. We wanted to put him in the best possible situation for him to be in the best possible position. He's an artist, and when he's on form, you can see that," added Galtier.
The 30-year-old Brazilian moved from Barcelona to PSG in 2017 at a world-record fee of $222 million. Neymar has so far scored 110 goals and 67 assists in 153 appearances for PSG in all competitions. He is currently in fourth place on the list of all-time leading goal scorers.
While PSG kickstarted the 2022-23 Champions League campaign with a win over Juventus, Maccabi Haifa lost to Benfica.
Kylian Mbappe scored both the goals against Juventus last week at Parc des Princes. The Frenchman has also been in great form, having netted nine goals in seven competitive appearances for PSG this term.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who is a part of PSG's glittering front-three, along with Neymar and Mbappe, has contributed with four goals and seven assists.
Defending champions PSG have started off the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season on a high as well, having won six out of their opening seven games.
