Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are the two best players in the world next to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo boldly claims.

PSG is coming off an impressive season with Neymar and Mbappe leading the way, and Leonardo sees no reason the French giants would not continue deferring to the superstar duo moving forward.

"We want to continue with them. Everything is clear to everyone. We must continue with them," Leonardo told Canal+, via Goal.

"To have two players like that on the same team is huge. Messi and Ronaldo were each in their own club. We have the two best players in the world after Messi and Ronaldo."

Neymar and Mbappe’s spectacular showing was also a product of Thomas Tuchel’s own genius being inserted into the formula. The chemistry was top-notch that it led to the club capturing a domestic treble last season, as well as an entry to the Champions League final for the first time in history.

Tuchel earned tons of credit in what Leonardo describes as the “best season in the club’s history."

With the German coach walking through the final year of his contract, Leonardo said a discussion to extend will be held as he dismissed the speculation that PSG is headed towards assigning Massimiliano Allegri as the club’s coach this year.

"(Tuchel) did something fantastic. It's the best season in the club's history. We have time to talk about that," Leonardo said. "We share a lot of things, we talk about the transfer market all the time. There is always a conversation about signing a player. Tuchel always validates the choice of players.

"We have a 10-month contract. Honestly, when I arrived, I could keep him or not. We spoke very clearly. I never contacted Allegri. I know him. We hope to do better this year.”

Leonardo also discussed his plans for the club in the upcoming season. After letting go of a handful of weapons and taking a significant risk for Mauro Icardi in the transfer market, the Brazilian executive is looking to pull off wiser decisions ahead.

"Every club today needs to sell. We made a big investment in Mauro Icardi. We have to be creative. The departures of the players were planned.

"We finished playing in August and not in May. We have until October 5th to recruit. But we have to look at the exit side before then."
