The Best NFL Combine Performances Of All Time: Record Holders For All The Workouts
Over the weekend, top names such as Florida State's Jameis Winston, Oregon's Marcus Mariota, USC's Leonard Williams, Alabama's Amari Cooper and a whole host of prospects will be at the 2015 NFL scouting combine. Athletes will run the 40-yard dash, bench press 225 pounds, complete vertical and broad jumps, run a three-cone drill, and run a 20-yard and 60-yard shuttle. It's one thing to be good; it's another to be the best. Ahead of the NFL combine, let's take a look at the best performances of all time.
40-Yard Dash
The 40-yard dash is perhaps the marquee event of the NFL combine and the one workout that most people will pay attention to this weekend. A great time leads to a glowing headline, while a bad performance will haunt you forever -- just look at Tom Brady. The fastest official 40-yard dash time belongs to New York Jets running back Chris Johnson, who ran it in 4.24 seconds in 2008. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Dri Archer is just behind him with a 4.26-second time.
Bench Press
Maybe speed isn't your thing, so let's look at the bench press. The goal is simple, bench 225 pounds as many times as you can. Chicago Bears defensive tackle Stephen Paea holds the record with 49 reps.
Vertical Jump
How high can you jump? Chances are it's nowhere near the 45 inches that Donald Washington cleared in 2009.
Broad Jump
The broad jump tests lower-body strength and explosion. New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins holds the broad jump record and hit 11 feet, 7 inches in 2013.
Three-Cone Drill
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeffrey Maehl holds the three-cone drill record, clearing it in 6.42 seconds.
20-Yard Shuttle
A shuttle run measures agility and lateral quickness using a 5-10-5 cone drill. Athletes run 5 yards to his right and touches a line, runs 10 yards to his left and runs back five yards. Defensive back Jason Allen holds the 20-yard shuttle record with a time of 3.81 seconds.
60-Yard Shuttle
A longer shuttle run testing agility, the 60-yard shuttle record belongs to New Orleans wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
