John Oliver FIFA Ad, 'The Mittens Of Disapproval Are On,' And Response To Jack Warner Airs On Trinidad TV [VIDEO]
The FIFA corruption scandal has been a dream come true for John Oliver. The "Last Week Tonight" host has made his feelings known about soccer's governing body and even celebrated the resignation of President Sepp Blatter with some Bud Light Lime and a bite from each item from McDonald's Dollar Menu. Taking it a step further, Oliver put up his own money to secure a spot on Trinidad's TV6 in response to disgraced former FIFA executive Jack Warner.
Oliver's message to Warner was filmed during a taping of "Last Week Tonight" and preempted an episode of "Mike & Molly." The host explains who is and why he's on television. Warner, a former CONCACAF president, was implicated in the FIFA bribery scandal and was among the executives arrested in Switzerland. In a weird campaign to defend himself and put more of the blame on FIFA, Warner cited an article from "The Onion" as evidence of a U.S. conspiracy against FIFA. He followed that up with a paid ad on TV6 where he promised to reveal damaging evidence of illegal activities by FIFA and Blatter.
"Not even death will stop the avalanche that is coming. ...The die is cast. There can be no turning back. Let the chips fall where they fall," Warner said.
Oliver's message to Warner includes some poor attempts at Trinidadian slang, but he soon gets to the reason why he created such a video. Oliver begs Warner to deliver on his promise to release all the evidence that proves FIFA and Blatter were utterly corrupt. Oliver points to the amount of evidence against Warner and the potential for hilarious revelations, such as how Chuck Warner, FIFA executive turned FBI informant, had an apartment in Trump Tower for his cats.
