"The Lego Movie" may have been snubbed at the Oscars, but that's just a minor note in a stellar 2014 for the Lego Group. Whether its movies, games or the beloved plastic brick sets, Lego is in demand, and sales soared in 2014. The Lego Group reported a 15 percent net profit increase and a 13 percent increase in revenue for the year.

We're pretty sure the Lego headquarters in Bilund, Denmark, and Lego offices around the world are playing "Everything Is Awesome" on repeat following the release of the annual report. "The Lego Movie" was the fifth-highest-grossing movie of 2014, earning $468.8 million worldwide, and the film's success contributed to rise of Lego sales. Some of the top-selling Lego products for the year included the Lego City, Lego Star Wars and Lego Friends themes. Net profit for Lego increased to $1 billion last year, and sales rose to $4.3 billion, the Associated Press reported.

It looks like 2015 will be another great year for the company, with the release of a "Lego Jurassic World" video game and sales of Lego Star Wars sets tied to the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The announcement of "The Lego Batman Movie" for 2017 and "The Lego Movie" sequel in 2018 bodes well for the future of Lego sales.

Playing with Legos is no longer just for kids, and sets could be quite expensive. A massive "Star Wars" Death Star set, comprising 3,803 pieces and 24 minifigures, will set you back $399.99. A 2,989-piece Sydney Opera House set costs $319.99, while MetalBeard's Sea Cow set will set you back $249.99. Retired sets could command hundreds or thousands of dollars on eBay, such as the Hogwarts Castle set from "Harry Potter."

To celebrate the success of Lego, let's take a look at some expensive sets, pieces and world records.

Most Expensive Lego Piece Ever

Andre Hurley paid $15,000 for a Lego piece. Not a play set or minifigure (which are highly collectible and sought after) but a piece from the Lego Bionicle theme. The platinum Avohkii Mask of Light was given away as part of a promotional contest hosted by Cartoon Network.
