Get ready to shred some paper for the women's soccer team!

New York will honor the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team with a ticker-tape parade in downtown Manhattan today, carrying on a longtime tradition for sports heroes and key public figures. The team beat Japan in Vancouver on Sunday to become the 2015 World Cup champs. Today’s parade, organized in just a few days, will start at 11 a.m. EDT at the Canyon of Heroes and end with a ceremony at City Hall. This is especially notable since women haven't been the sole honorees of a ticker-tape parade since 1960, according to FiveThirtyEight.

It may not seem so long ago, but it's been three years since the last ticker tape parade in New York. The honorees that time? The New York Giants, after they won the 2012 Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

Before that, it was the Yankees for their 2009 World Series win.

As we get pumped up to celebrate the soccer team, we thought it would be fun to take a run down memory lane of the most recent ticker-tape parades.

2012 -- Giants, Super Bowl XLVI

Eli Manning and the Giants rolled to a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots. This was the second time the Giants managed to ruin a perfect season for the Patriots, according to ESPN. The first time was in 2008.
