Play 'Cards Against Humanity' Online For Free With New 'Cards Against Originality' App
The news that you can now play “Cards Against Humanity” online is cause for celebration and more procrastination by office drones around the world. Graphic designer Dawson Whitfield created the “Cards Against Originality” app derived from the offline party game that will lead to countless contests featuring wildly inappropriate answers and plenty of laughter.
Whitfield indicated the impetus for moving “Cards Against Humanity” to cyberspace from meatspace was a simple one: “I made this (web) app out of pure frustration that no one has done a good job at it,” he said on Product Hunt.
Unlike Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, Whitfield won’t have to worry about any legal troubles with “Cards Against Originality.” As explained on its website, “Cards Against Humanity is available under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 2.0 license. That means you can use, remix, and share the game for free, but you can’t sell it without our permission. Please do not steal our name or we will smash you.” As Whitfield noted, there’s an unofficial expansion pack called “Crabs Adjust Humidity” that is pretty much a parody version of “Cards Against Humanity” with more inappropriate options to choose from.
“I made the game because I love ‘CAH’ so much. Anything I can do to support them, I will. The last thing I’d want to do is hurt the people that’ve brought me and my friends so much joy,” Whitfield said.
“Cards Against Originality” includes all the expansion packs and requires players to be in the same room to play a game. One individual begins a game and shares the link with players. The Web-based game can be played on Android devices, Apple iPads and iPhones, laptop personal computers and other devices with Internet connections.
If you’re looking for other ways to procastinate online, but don’t want to play with others, there are plenty of options. The Internet Archive has more than 2,386 MS-DOS games to choose from, while the site’s Console Living Room and Internet Arcade offer other options for gamers.
