Charlie Hebdo Funerals And A New Magazine

Memorial services in Paris paid tribute to the victims of last week's Charlie Hebdo shooting that killed a total of 12 people, including two police officers, in the city of lights. The French policewoman in training who was shot dead by an accomplice of the brothers who carried out the Charlie Hebdo attacks was also honored. French President François Hollande attended the ceremony in Paris and posthumously awarded the three police officers killed during the attacks France's "Legion of Honour."

The four victims killed during the hostage situation at the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in the Porte de Vincennes neighborhood of Paris were honored at a memorial service at Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.

As promised, Charlie Hebdo will have a new issue out on Wednesday, and its cover was revealed Monday. The magazine plans a run of 3 million copies, with its cover featuring the Prophet Muhammad holding a sign that reads "Je Suis Charlie." The headline above it: "Tout Est Pardonné," or "All Is Forgiven."

Pope Francis Visits Sri Lanka

Pope Francis began his visit to Sri Lanka Tuesday, urging the gathered crowd to begin the healing process after a civil war that lasted more than 30 years. "The process of healing also needs to include the pursuit of truth, not for the sake of opening old wounds but rather as a necessary means of promoting justice, healing and unity," Francis was quoted as saying. In addition to large crowds, elephants and newly elected President Maithripala Sirisena greeted Pope Francis at the airport. The pope will visit the Philippines on Thursday.

First Ever Photo Of A Shark Giving Birth?

Attila Kaszo, a photographer on Dr. Simon Oliver's research team from the University of Chester, may have snapped the first ever photo of a thresher shark giving birth, BBC reported. In fact, the photo may be "the first record of any oceanic species giving birth," according to Dr. Oliver.

"We were unable to decipher the cause of the shark’s distress from our observation post 15 meters away, although it was evident that cleaner wrasse were taking bites from its pelvic region. We observed the shark for a total of 4 minutes, during which we took its photograph for identification purposes," Oliver wrote in the journal Coral Reefs. "Later, when we processed the photograph for analysis, it revealed the head of a pup emerging from the shark’s cloaca."
