While the big winter storm in the Northeast wasn't exactly historic, it did dump a lot of snow in the region and affected some 29 million people. Thousands of flights have been canceled at Boston's Logan Airport, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, but the travel ban for New York and New Jersey has been lifted for Tuesday. While the Northeast enjoys a snow day, here are a few developing stories you should follow today.

The blizzard was downgraded to a winter storm for NYC, but it did drop as much as 18 inches in some areas, and it's not quite over. The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for coastal areas from New Jersey to Maine and winter storm warnings from New Jersey to Maine. Snowfall totals were less than expected, but parts of Long Island received up to 18 inches of snow and the town of Essex, Connecticut, received an unofficial total of 15.5 inches.

For the commute around the city, PATH train service resumed on a weekend schedule at 9:30 a.m. EST and MTA buses and trains will run on a weekend schedule beginning at noon.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The U.N. General Assembly established International Holocaust Remembrance Day to commemorate the end of the death camp and World War II. On Tuesday, 300 Holocaust survivors gathered at the former site of Auschwitz in Poland, BBC reported. Ahead of the ceremony, German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned present-day anti-Semitism at a ceremony in Berlin. "We've got to constantly be on guard to protect our freedom, democracy and rule of law," Merkel was quoted as saying by BBC.

How Effective Are Super Bowl Ads?

Sure, the commercials may spawn catchphrases or generate millions of views on YouTube, but are Super Bowl ads worth the millions of dollars for a coveted spot during the game? New research from Stanford University concludes the ads are effective as long as they are not competing with another company. For example, Coke and Pepsi have Super Bowl ads, but soda sales do not increase as a result of the commercials. Budweiser, which has no competition, says it gets a sales spike of around $96 million due to the ads.

Scientology Hits Big At Sundance

You'll be hearing a lot about "Going Clear," a new documentary about Scientology that premiered at Sundance Sunday. The HBO documentary, based on Lawrence Wright's book of the same name, will face plenty of legal scrutiny from the group. The film includes details on Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's breakup as well as the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. "Going Clear" premieres on HBO on March 16.
