Queen Elizabeth II reportedly avoided Kate Middleton for five years while she was dating Prince William.

The Duchess of Cambridge and the Queen have shared a great relationship. However, they were not that close during the early stages of her relationship with Prince William.

According to Amalie Henden of Express, the monarch “steered clear” from meeting Middleton for five years. Yes, it took half a decade before the Queen officially meet Prince William’s then-girlfriend.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly avoided Middleton for that long because she wanted to meet her when everything between her and Prince William was already serious. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dated for almost a decade and faced two major breakups before they got engaged.

Middleton met Queen Elizabeth II for the first time at Peter and Autumn Phillips’ wedding. Prince William wasn’t there because he attended another wedding.

“Well, I first met her at Peter and Autumn's wedding and again it was in amongst a lot of other guests. She was very friendly, and yes, it was fine,” Middleton said during their engagement interview.

“She was very welcoming. She knew it was a big day and everything was going on with Peter and Autumn, she had wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello, we had a little chat and got on really well,” the duke added.

Prince William’s statement sparked debate as he was not around when Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II met for the first time.

Prince William skipped his cousin’s wedding to attend his ex-girlfriend Jecca Craig’s brother’s nuptials. The decision wasn’t deemed a royal snub because he already informed his cousin ahead about the event.

Meanwhile, according to Camilla Tominey, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh found Prince William and Middleton’s dating history too long. After their second major split, the Queen and Prince Philip gave Prince William an ultimatum to either marry Middleton or broke up with her for good.

Her Majesty wanted them to break up for good than marry each other and end up getting divorced in five year’s time. Meanwhile, Prince Philip told his grandson that he could not keep stringing along Middleton forever.
