Queen Elizabeth II reportedly forged a strong bond with Meghan Markle very early on.

Bill McLoughlin, a journalist for Express, said that the two female royals’ shared passion and love for animals brought them closer to each other. During Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement interview with BBC in 2017, the Duke of Sussex revealed how thrilled his grandmother was to know that his then-fiancée loved dogs.

The Duke of Sussex talked about the reaction of the Queen’s Corgis to him and Markle and said that they were so different. “I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; Meghan walks in, absolutely nothing,” Prince Harry said.

Other than their love for dogs, the Queen recently handed over some of her patronages to the “Suits” alum. Last month, Markle has been named as the patron of the National Theater and the Association of the Commonwealth Universities.

According to the journalist, the fact that the Queen handed over two patronages to the Duchess of Sussex could only mean that she respects and trusts Markle.

Last year, Reader’s Digest also listed some of the royal traditions that Her Majesty broke for the Duchess of Sussex. Before Markle got engaged to Prince Harry, the royal family’s Christmas was strictly intended for the members of the British clan alone.

But Markle had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with Prince Harry and his side of the family in 2017 even before they got married. This is because Markle just transferred to London at that time and she didn’t have her family with her.

The Queen also had a Coat of Arms created for Markle even though this is usually created for the family of a spouse marrying into the royal family and given to the father of the bride ahead of the wedding.

Her Majesty also allowed Markle and Prince Harry to wed in church even though the American-born former actress is a divorcee. The Queen also allowed Prince Charles to walk Markle down the aisle because his dad didn’t attend his wedding.
