Due to the fact that Prince William has been second in line to the throne for his entire life, the Duke of Cambridge reportedly felt "the burden of responsibility much more than his younger brother Prince Harry." Queen Elizabeth II is said to have noticed that and therefore allowed the member of the British royal family to do something unexpected thing. What was it?

According to Express, Her Majesty granted William a few liberties while he was studying at the University of St. Andrews. One of those was reportdly allowing him to have a "media blackout" while at the school so that he could become a bit closer to living as a "normal student" during his time there.

After graduation, William reportedly continued on that path of seeking normalcy when he requested that he be treated like everyone else while he worked as a pilot with the RAF and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. It is also said that he was "discreet about royal status."

As time went on and the media blackout ended, Prince William, and eventually Kate Middleton, would go on to conduct their royal duties on their own terms. Earlier this year, they separated from the Royal Foundation, which was an initiative that they once shared with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

This certainly wouldn't be the first time that the monarch made exceptions and broke the rules in certain instances. Recently, the Queen broke her "most sacred rule" when she openly spoke about political issues. Additionally, she also gave Kate Middleton a "true gift" during a visit to Balmoral, which gave the Duchess of Cambridge unique permission to do something that no one had ever done before.
