Imagine, one day, just joking about hanging out with the queen on Instagram, when it’s simply just her face on a £10 note, and then four years later actually hanging out with Britian’s Queen Elizabeth II in real life.

That’s exactly what happened to actress Meghan Markle, who’s now engaged to Prince Harry. The star was shooting the film “Anti-Social” with Gregg Sulkin in December 2013 when she posted a hilarious, now even more so, image from behind-the-scenes.

“Just me, @greggsulkinofficial & a cameo by the queen,” she captioned a picture of the screen of a videocamera that featured herself and Sulkin.

The “cameo” by the queen was actually just a £10 note taped up to the videocamera. Nonetheless, Markle had some fun with it, probably never imagining that she’d actually end up being in photos with the reigning monarch.

Little did she know that just a few short years later she’d be set up on a blind date with one of her grandsons, Prince Harry. Now, she doesn’t only get to interact with the queen when she’s handling money, but in person, as well.

Markle is set to spend Christmas with the royal family, which includes Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton. This is a big deal not just for Markle, but for overall royal tradition, as this is breaking the usual Christmas protocol. Normally, only those who are officially part of the royal family can partake in festivities, and as Markle is not yet married to Prince Harry, only engaged, she’s not legally part of the family yet.

As such, Middleton was not allowed to join the royals for Christmas back when she was only engaged to Prince William in 2010. Markle is clearly the exception to this rule, something the 2013 version of herself may have never thought possible.

This was only made possible by the queen herself giving permission for Markle to celebrate with them. Perhaps she was a fan of Markle’s Instagram joke? Or perhaps it was because Prince Harry asked her kindly.

“Harry asked the queen for permission last month, and she is delighted to have Harry bring his fiancée,” a source told People. “It is a family occasion, after all, and Meghan is very much family now.”

One thing is clear, Markle is spending December 2017 much differently from how she spent it 2013. What will 2018 hold?
