Queen Elizabeth II’s Quirky Cushion That Says ‘Its Good To Be Queen’ Revealed In New Documentary
The new documentary on Queen Elizabeth II was aired on ITV on Sunday night in the U.K. “Our Queen At Ninety” gives the audience an intimate glimpse into the life of the British royal, who will celebrate her 90th birthday on April 21. The documentary film featured interviews by her family members, including Prince Charles and his wife Camila, grandchildren Princes William, Harry, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and also Kate Middleton.
Some of the interesting aspects that the audience loved about “Our Queen At Ninety” she has a red cushion that has “It’s Good To Be Queen” written across it. According to 33-year-old William, some people get so excited to see the queen they actually faint in front of her. But, he added that such instances were rare but they did happen.
The 89-year-old Elizabeth has a huge fan in retired England football captain David Beckham. Her personal rooms in Buckingham Palace are decorated with family photos like William and Kate’s engagement photo, a photo of her and her granddaughter Zara Phillips on the latter’s wedding day. Besides, she also has an illustration of William and Harry.
Elizabeth “quietly” guides her grandchildren. William said in the documentary that she never dictated what they should do. He added it is sometimes never seen but there always, and has allowed his to explore more about who he is what he has to do.
The father-of-two recalled a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace when he was talking to a representative from one country and got mixed up with another, opposing country. He said it was quite embarrassing, but his grandmother was pretty cool about it. Harry could not get enough of the fact that his grandmother is a globetrotting royal who has been everywhere.
When Princess Charlotte was born, Elizabeth was one of Will and Kate’s first visitors. Even Prince George is very fond of his great grandmother and has a special and adorable name for her — “Gan-Gan”. According to 34-year-old Kate, her most memorable engagement with the queen was an “away day.”
She went with Elizabeth and Prince Philip for a day out in Leicester as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour in 2012. She revealed as William was away, Elizabeth took time to make sure she was happy and looked after. Kate added it showed the queen loved her family.
According to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Elizabeth wore bright colors so people could spot her from far. Her passion for horses is well known and still rides. She is an avid horse-racing fan and breeds them too. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall said Elizabeth’s love for horses is a two-way affection.
Interestingly, the queen played “catching happy days” with her cousin Margaret Rhodes as a child. However, Rhodes said Elizabeth was very much an ordinary little girl, but she was always a slightly serious little girl. Besides, the family resoundingly agreed that one of the keys to the queen’s successful long reign is her relationship with her husband, Prince Philip.
