Father and daughter smiling
In this shot, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II seemed to share a good conversation as they smiled at each other. One netizen described the photograph “beautiful.”
“There is no love greater than that between a father & daughter,” the netizen wrote and added that she was wondering what made the father and daughter giggle.
Queen Elizabeth II and King George VI with their dogs
Queen Elizabeth II loves dogs. In fact, she owned a number of corgis. King George VI acquired the first corgi in the royal household for his children, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. Since then the Queen owned several corgis including Susan from whom all of her newer royal corgis have descended.
Last year, the Queen’s last surviving corgi that the Queen herself bred died just a few weeks before its 15th birthday and the monarch was heartbroken. According to Richard Kay, the queen was “not just mourning Willow,” but she was also ending the “era and of a royal dynasty that began in her childhood.” Queen Elizabeth II reportedly no longer wanted any more young dogs because she didn’t want to leave them behind.
King George’s coronation
In 1937, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) were crowned as the new King and Queen of England. Queen Elizabeth II was photographed smiling and waving with her sister Princess Margaret during their father’s coronation at the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Both were wearing tiaras during the celebration.
When Queen Elizabeth was only 25 years old she was forced to take over the throne after her father’s death. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were in Kenya when they learned about the sad news. The Queen reacted with a sense of duty and discussed the practicalities of returning to England immediately but also asked to be left alone in her room that day.
