Queen Elizabeth II’s Rare Throwback Photo From 35 Years Ago Resurfaces
Queen Elizabeth went to San Diego on Feb. 26, 1983. Her visit to the city became a cover story for The Tribune.
Thirty-five years later, the newspaper article was released online. A black and white photo of a much younger queen wearing a hat and a dress is shown. She is welcomed by a group of musicians and accompanied by two security personnel.
According to the publication’s report, the queen was the first ever monarch to set foot in San Diego. When she arrived at the pier, she waved to the massive crowd that was waiting for her.
Bernadine Moore of Rancho Bernardo told The Tribune, “This should really make her feel at home. I guess if I saw Mount St. Helen’s erupt, I should see this.”
Queen Elizabeth II was joined by Prince Philip during her trip to San Diego. He arrived to the city wearing his dark blue admiralty uniform and sword.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip have been married for 70 years. The couple celebrated their anniversary last year. The couple has supported each other through the many ups and downs of their relationship.
Ingrid Seward, the editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine said, “He was different from all the aristocratic rich young men Elizabeth had met previously. He had no money and no estates, but had royal blood in abundance – they were cousins through Elizabeth’s great grandmother Queen Victoria.”
After meeting him for the first time in 1934, the queen developed a crush on him. “Prince Philip was so handsome, he was almost beautiful. From the moment Elizabeth saw him again when she was 13 years old and he was 18, she never looked at another man,” Seward said.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip wed in November 1947 when she was just 21 years old. They have been blessed with four children together, namely, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne.
