Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew Sweet Moments With Nanny Revisited
Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Prince Charles, and the other members of the royal family all grew up under the care of their nannies.
This week, Hello! magazine compiled some of the photos of the British royal family with their trusted childminders, starting off with a photo of Her Majesty and Princess Margaret with their nanny, Marion Crawford.
Crawford was appointed as nursery governess in 1932 by the Queen’s mom, the Queen Mother. Crawford stayed with the royal family until the monarch turned 21 years old.
In the black and white photo, Crawford is holding the hand of Princess Margaret while they are walking outdoors. The Queen, who is older than Princess Margaret, is also holding her sister’s other hand.
When the Queen and Princess Margaret were much younger, they were left under the care of Clara Knight. The nanny was also appointed by the Queen Mother to look after her two daughters. In the throwback photo, Her Majesty is riding a carriage with Knight.
Several years later, the Queen and Prince Philip had their own children. The busy royal couple hired the services of Helen Lightbody to look after Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
In the photo, Lightbody is standing behind a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne and smiling straight at the camera.
Prince Charles and his younger siblings also had another nanny named Mabel Anderson. In one photo, Anderson is pushing a young Prince Andrew on a pram.
Several years passed and Prince Charles welcomed his own children with Princess Diana. The Prince and Princess of Wales also hired the services of Olga Powell to act as a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry.
Powell took over as the head nanny for Prince William and Prince Harry after Barbara Barnes left her post. The latter lived in the palace until Prince William started primary school.
And when Prince William and Prince Harry got older, they were cared for by nanny Tiggy Leggy-Bourke.
