Queen Elizabeth Relied On Prince Philip To Do This Thing During Engagements
Queen Elizabeth reportedly relied on Prince Philip for an important thing during their royal tours.
“The Royals” author Kitty Kelley said that there was one thing that Her Majesty wasn’t really good in doing but her husband was an expert at. She said that the Queen had the discipline to stand for hours under the sun and ride a horse side-saddle for miles, but she struggled to interact with people and make small talk with them.
According to the author, this was mainly because of how Her Majesty was raised at Windsor Castle. Growing up, the Queen was not accustomed to entertaining other people and she didn’t know how to be socially ingratiating. Prince Philip, on the other hand, was her exact opposite.
“The Queen’s gregarious husband enjoyed bantering with others and being flirtatious,” Kelley said.
Gwen Robyns, a reporter who was part of the small press contingent that accompanied the Queen on her 1953 tour, said that Prince Philip was a perfect match for Her Majesty.
“She was so young and unsure of herself as Queen, Very, very self-conscious as a monarch, painfully insecure, she did not know how to act or behave among so many people,” the reporter said. “But Philip was smooth and easy, more sophisticated,” Robyns added.
The Duke of Edinburgh had the ability to warm up the crowds because of his sense of humor. The Queen, on the other hand, had a grumpy face almost all the time because she was overwhelmed. However, Prince Philip always managed to put a smile on her face while they are out in public.
Following her coronation, the royal couple embarked on their first royal tour. According to Robyns, it was really Prince Philip that carried the Queen throughout the entire trip.
While in Australia, the Royals were shaking hands with other people under the unbearable heat of the sun. The Queen looked uncomfortable, but Prince Philip urged her to cheer up and she did.
