A recent poll revealed that some Britons want Queen Elizabeth II to be removed as the head of state.

YouGov surveyed 1,100 Labor party members regarding the monarch, Trident, and the government. Only 15 percent of the respondents described themselves as people who are proud of British history.

Around 43 percent of the respondents said that they are ashamed to be British, and 62 percent said that the United Kingdom should be a Republic. When this happens, the Queen will no longer serve as the head of state.

It was previously reported that Her Majesty will never abdicate. But some royal fans said that the 93-year-old should be given the option to do so. On Debate.org, one royal fan said that the British monarchy doesn’t have real power.

“It's mainly symbolic so if someone wishes to lead a different life than being in the spotlight 24/7 then they should be allowed to abdicate the throne and lead their own private life, I don't think we should force someone to be there if they don't want to be,” the royal fan said.

Another royal fan said that anytime the Queen wishes to retire or abdicate, she should be able to because this is her right.

“Abdication should be an option for Queen Elizabeth II. This is because a lifelong position should have an opt-out choice for issues such as health or choosing to spend more time with family, or even to retire. The royals are not supposed to abdicate but the option should be kept open for the Queen as well as other royals,” the royal fan said.

The Queen is already 93 years old, but she has not shown signs of slowing down. At most, she has only passed on some of her royal duties to her children and grandchildren. But even at her delicate age, the Queen is still very much visible in public. Her husband, Prince Philip, retired at the age of 97.
