Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip might be royalty, but they also fight and argue with each other just like any other couple, a royal correspondent has revealed.

James Whitaker previously wrote in a 2007 Daily Mirror report that even though they have been married for decades, Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip still have explosive fights with each other. A royal insider apparently told him that their "blazing rows" were unbelievable to witness, and the monarch has even told the Duke of Edinburgh to "shut up."

”The Queen and Philip still have blazing rows," the royal correspondent wrote (via Express). "One courtier said: ‘You can hardly believe what you are seeing. There are cries of 'Rubbish' and 'You don't know what you're talking about.'"

However, royal correspondent Hugo Vickers said he believes that the Queen and Prince Philip's arguments have only strengthened their union. He said in the 2014 documentary “The Majestic Life of Queen Elizabeth II” that the two are "well-matched" and that the duke doesn't hold back even though his wife has a higher position than him.

According to the royal insider, this is a good thing considering that Prince Philip is perhaps the only person who could speak candidly with Queen Elizabeth. While the monarch leads them in public, the duke reportedly wears the pants in the family when they are at home.

“For the Queen herself, when you consider she is surrounded by a lot of yes men, actually having a man in her life who tells her what he thinks of what she’s doing is probably a refreshing change," he explained.

The British monarch and Prince Philip, who are distant cousins, tied the knot in November 1947. The royal couple's marriage has resulted in four children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

And after over 70 years together, the Queen and Prince Philip have reportedly begun living apart. At 98 years old, the duke is fully retired from royal duties, and his wife reportedly knows that he would be happier staying at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate, according to Richard Kay's Daily Mail report.
