Queen Elizabeth is still protective of her favorite son, Prince Andrew, especially after the recent scandal that he’s involved with.

Royal commentator Neal Sean said on Australia’s “Today” show that on Christmas Day, the Duke of York could ride the car with Her Majesty. Since the monarch is already 93 years old, she no longer walks on her way to church.

“This is two things really. She will want him by her side to protect him, of course, she’s his mum, and also there’s a security element there. I have been to that walk down and you are quite close… It would be a very risky thing on a very public day to be so close to someone, right now, who’s seen as a little bit toxic within the British public eye,” he said.

Earlier this week, another royal source told The Sunday Times that Prince Andrew will most definitely attend the Christmas Day church service with the royal family since he is still a member of the British clan.

But there are some concerns over sex abuse campaigners who could heckle Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband publicly. The source said that if this happens, Prince Andrew could bring greater embarrassment to the royal family.

Last month, the Duke of York spoke with BBC’s Emily Maitlis regarding his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. He also denied the allegations that he slept with underage girls years ago.

Following his interview, Prince Andrew was reportedly summoned to Sandringham for a crisis lunch with Prince Charles and Prince Philip. On the “Pod Save the Queen” podcast, royal expert Russell Myers said that the three royals had a showdown.

“They have had this ‘showdown’ that was widely reported [to be coming] the week before last when Charles was still away on his tour. Some of the aides were frantically suggesting that that wasn’t going to happen. And, lo and behold, it has happened, as we were rightly saying,” he said.
