Queen Elizabeth Was Never Supposed To Be Proclaimed Queen For This Reason
Queen Elizabeth was reportedly not supposed to be proclaimed queen, but she is now known as Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
In the documentary “The Story of the Royals,” royal author Anna Whitelock claimed that the Queen has been dubbed as the woman who has literally seen every key figure of the second half of the 20th century.
Modern British history expert Arianne Chernock added that Her Majesty is also the most politically accomplished person in the world. But as a child, the Queen apparently never expected to ascend to the throne.
“The Queen, though, was not supposed to be Queen. She was Queen because her uncle, Edward VIII abdicated,” she said.
Edward VIII was the son of George VI. He was supposed to be king following his dad’s death in 1936. When the Queen was born in 1926, she was third in line to the throne, following her dad, Prince Albert. Following George VI’s death, the Queen expected that she would move further down the line of succession if Edward VIII was to have children.
However, everything changed when Edward VIII abdicated just a few months after he was crowned king. He decided to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson and chose love over his position. This resulted in Prince Albert becoming King George VI. At the age of 10, the Queen became the heir apparent.
On Feb. 8, 1952, Her Royal Highness was formally proclaimed as the queen, the head of the Commonwealth, and the defender of the faith. At present, the Queen’s eldest son is waiting for his turn to lead the monarchy. Prince Charles will become king when Her Majesty dies or is unable to carry out royal duties.
When Prince Charles is crowned King, his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, will be known as the queen consort. Prince William will become the new heir apparent, and he will become king after Prince Charles’ death or resignation. When Prince William is named king, his wife, Kate Middleton, will be known as queen consort.
The next generation of royals will be headed by Prince George, who is currently third in line to the throne.
