Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming parliament speech is expected to still be traditional. However, it is possible that Her Majesty will skip one important detail during the occasion.

While speaking on BBC Radio 4’s program “Today,” royal author Robert Hardman said that it is highly likely that the 93-year-old monarch will not wear a crown while giving her parliament speech. But all of the other parts of the event, like carriages, horses, and the other traditions will all remain the same.

“The yeoman of the guard will go on their ritual inspection of the cellars to check that no latter-day Guy Fawkes has planted any gunpowder down there. The Vice-Chamberlain, the mid-ranking whip of the government will be taken hostage at Buckingham Palace. All these great traditions, the crown will have its own carriage procession, all that will happen,” he said.

But the author of “Queen of the World” said that the moment wherein the Queen emerges from the robing room will be different from the previous years. This time around, the mom of four won’t be wearing a crown on her head, and the reason behind this makes a whole lot of sense.

“It’s a sensible concession to the passage of time. At 93 years old, having a two-pound crown full of diamonds, emeralds and sapphires on your head can be quite a chore so that may be carried on a cushion and she will wear a diadem instead. The last time we saw all this ritual happening, Michael Gove was the Lord Chancellor who greeted at the door and David Cameron was the Prime Minister who wrote the speech so look how times have changed,” he said.

And when asked if the Queen’s speech this year would be an unprecedented stunt, Hardman said that this won’t be the case. He said that despite the public’s frustrations over the constitutional ambiguities, the state opening of parliament will be a great pageant.
