Queenstown’s old hospital facing asbestos woe
Tasmania - Asbestos contamination in an abandoned hospital at Queenstown have raised some concerns from its residents.
The Premier David Bartlett is planning to visit Devonport next week; to inspect a derelict maternity hospital at the centre of an asbestos scare but the Mayor of the West Coast Council Daryl Gerrity says Queenstown's old hospital is facing a similar problem.
Perhaps the Premier could do a lap via the west coast and solve our problems also, he said.
A resident said that the building has been boarded up for about five years and often visited by vandals.
In 2003, the State Government handed over $1.4 million for the cleanup of the former Burnie Hospital which was also contaminated with asbestos.
