Pierce Brosnan portrayed the character of James Bond in four movies and was considered to be the hottest man to play the iconic character when the films were released. The character took his popularity to a whole new level and made him a household name.
Recalling the time when he donned the iconic tux, the 66-year-old actor revealed that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino actually wanted to work with him on a movie based on the fictional character and also pitched an idea for a possible “James Bond” film.
In an interview with Esquire UK, Brosnan said that the incident happened right after “Kill Bill Vol. 2.” The actor went to Hollywood for a meeting with the Academy Award-winning filmmaker at the Four Seasons. At the time, Tarantino was busy promoting the second movie in the “Kill Bill” franchise.
The “Dante’s Peak” actor waited for the director for almost half an hour and drank martinis while waiting for him.
“It was after ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2,’ and [Quentin] wanted to meet me. And I went up into Hollywood one day. I got there at 7 o’clock. I like to be punctual. 7:15 came around, no Quentin. He was upstairs doing press on ‘Kill Bill.’ And someone sent over a martini, so I had the martini,” Brosnan said.
Eventually, the “Django Unchained” helmer came down and sat with the esteemed actor for a meeting. Both celebrities got “snockered” on martinis and this is when Tarantino told Brosnan that he wanted to work with him on a “James Bond” flick.
The actor also explained that he did talk to the bosses about a movie with Tarantino, but they decided to pass on the idea.
“Anyway, he wanted to do ‘James Bond.’ I went back to the shop and told them, but it was not meant to be. No Quentin Tarantino for ‘James Bond.’ What a shame. That would be a good one to watch,” Brosnan said.
Brosnan starred in “GoldenEye” (1995), “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “The World Is Not Enough” (1999), and “Die Another Day” (2002). He was the sixth actor to play the iconic character after Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, and Timothy Dalton.
