Is R. Kelly Engaged? Joycelyn Savage Begged Judge To Give 'Fiance' A Lenient Sentence
Singer R. Kelly is engaged to his alleged victim Joycelyn Savage, according to a letter Savage sent to a judge asking for a lenient sentence. Savage's family disputed that Kelly and Savage are engaged.
On Monday, TMZ obtained the legal document of Savage’s correspondence with a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, ahead of Kelly’s sentencing. In the letter, Savage referred to herself as “Robert Kelly’s fiance” and denied being “the victim that the government has portrayed me to be.”
“My relationship with Robert is amazing. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. We have a very special connection and are deeply in love. I still support Robert to this day because I love him and will always be here to support him,” Savage wrote.
“Robert is not the monster that the government has described him to be. The Robert I know is very sweet, gentle, and kind. At the end of the day, he has always made sure that I’m taken care of, and any other women he was with as well.”
On June 29, Kelly received a 30-year prison sentence for federal racketeering and sex trafficking.
Despite Savage’s claims to the judge that she and Kelly were engaged, her parents’ attorney, Gerald Griggs, claimed Joycelyn didn’t share the engagement news with her family and never discussed any plans for marriage.
Griggs revealed the Savage family “strongly doubts” Joycelyn is engaged to Kelly. However, Griggs admitted that Joycelyn hasn’t been in contact with her parents, but the family is hopeful that they will reconnect and find out the truth about the engagement story.
News of Joycelyn Savage’s letter comes after Kelly was removed from suicide watch almost one week after his sentencing.
Kelly’s attorney revealed the singer would be suing the Metropolitan Detention Center after jail officials put him on suicide watch “solely for punitive purposes” and his status as a “high-profile” inmate.
Following his latest conviction in New York, Kelly is expected to face a federal case in Illinois and a state trial in Minnesota.
